FLEXI TANK

As we progress into 2015, TCR is hopeful to build on its success of 2014 in handling a year on year increase of more than 40% in the handling of Flexi tanks, an inner lining to a standard ISO container, converting a standard dry unit into equipment fit to transport a number of commodities in bulk. Being of a non – hazardous nature, a range of products are carried in flexi tanks and include wine, fruit concentrate, base oil, detergents, non-hazardous chemicals, paint, lubricants, printing ink, latex and potable water.
In providing this service, TCR is well placed to meet the needs of the well-known chemical industries located in the hinterland of Ravenna as well as the food and beverage producers based in Emilia-Romagna, who have been increasing throughout the years the use of flexi tank, for transportation of their products to destinations in East Mediterranean, featuring Israel and Turkey, and in Far East, with Thailand China and Singapore representing the important markets.
“To minimize the possibility of a flexi tank being damaged, the first step required” –explains Luca Guerrini (TCR Customer Service Manager) – “is a thorough container inspection to ensure that it is clean, structurally undamaged and free of protrusions, internally. TCR staff proceed then with the container set-up and with installation of flexi tanks bags. This is performed by skilled personnel, long experienced in the handling of conventional and bulk commodities as well as unitized loads, covering all the activities needed including – continues Luca – the transfer of the liquid product directly from external trucks to the flexi tank units, an operation that requires precision movement to avoid any damage. All of this takes place in situ at the terminal”
Alessandro Battolini (TCR Operations manager) adds: “As a final result of TCR providing added value services in the terminal area, we are able to optimize the global supply chain, reducing the costs for the exporters as well as for the shipping line, combining flexi tanks operations with management of empty boxes, then avoiding external transportation costs and maximizing the equipment utilization. Flexi tank operations are sometimes a reason of concern in the container industry, as there are many potential risks involved in the shipment of such units either the cargo or the equipment itself. If as the wrong pressure is placed on the sidewall panels the results can mean may lead to a permanent deformation. Added value services to flexi tanks handling, is a further example of the wide a range of added value activities that our experienced and skilled team are providing as we handle a variety of commodities such as steel coils, glass and aluminum goods destined to the food and beverage industry, plastic and packaging materials, in Ravenna – concludes Alessandro Battolini.
